I walk as much as I can and always carry a camera when I do. The photographs on this website were all taken when out walking, mostly in the South West of England and mostly on the coast. I use a small pocketable camera and I photograph everywhere that I have been. I do very little post-processing of my images, perhaps a little colour or exposure correction now and then.
When I was younger I walked the Kennet and Avon Canal Walk (94 Miles, easy walking) and the Cotswold Way National Trail (102 miles, easy and moderate walking), then I decided to try something more challenging.
So between 1999 and 2004 I walked the South West Coast Path (SWCP) from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point in Dorset (630 miles, easy, moderate, strenuous and severe walking). I did this in sections of between 70 and 150 miles at a time plus a few shorter walks near the end.
I took a little camera on all of these treks. I'm really glad that I did because the photos remind me of what I have been lucky enough to experience.
I am in my late seventies now and continue take regular walks and long-distance walks. I consider that walking is a major factor in my continuing good health, especially as most of it is country walking. I also think that a healthy the mind is essential to good health and that walking can clear the mind and photography can then stimulate the mind in a relaxed way.
When I was 75 I decided to try tackling the SWCP again, but this time by walking in the other direction.
In 2022 I walked the 89 mile Dorset section of the SWCP from South Haven Point to Lyme Regis in an 8 days.
In 2023 I walked the 123 miles of the East and South Devon section of the SWCP from Lyme Regis to Plymouth in 10 days.
In 2024 I walked the 87 mile Tamara Coast to Coast Way from Plymouth to Marsland Mouth on the Atlantic coast in a 6 days.
I didn't attempt the Cornwall section of the SWCP again in 2024. This was because of the knee injury that I sustained when walking the last 5 miles of the SWCP to Plymouth in 2023. This knee now gives me real trouble when tackling tough ascents and descents, which there are a lot of on the Cornish coast path. So I chose to walk the easier coast to coast path. I remember The Cornish coast path well from the first time I walked it with good knees! Actually both of my knees are not what they used to be now. If I ever get some 'new' ones I might walk the Cornish coast again.
In 2024 I also walked the 18 miles from the Hampshire/Dorset border to the Dorset start/finish point of the SWCP. This was an easy walk for my dodgy knees and it means that I have completed a 107 mile walk along the whole of the Dorset coast.
My future walking plans are to walk from the Hampshire/Dorset border eastwards along the Hampshire coast to extend my previous walk beyond the SWCP. Here I will be walking on the King Charles III England Coast Path. Also I intend to extend my walking beyond the other end of the SWCP by walking remainder of the Somerset coast to just beyond Weston-Super-Mare where the King Charles III England Coast Path ends and the River Severn begins.
